Margaret R. O'Brien

Margaret R. O'Brien, 88, of 909 South Main St. died Wednesday at Great Barrington Healthcare, where she resided since June. Born in Great Barrington on Nov. 15, 1913, daughter of Frank and Mae Karrigan Romano, she graduated from the former Dewey School and attended the former Searles High School. A homemaker, she had worked at the former Monument Mills and the former David Hats Co. Mrs. O'Brien was a member of St. James' Episcopal Church and was active with church fund-raisers. She was also a member of the West Stockbridge Grange, the Sheffield American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary and the local chapter of AARP. She enjoyed going to tag sales. Her husband, Harold F. O'Brien, whom she married June 13, 1946, in Hillsdale, N.Y., died Oct. 13, 1986. She leaves two sons, Harold F. O'Brien of Fairfield, Calif., and John A. O'Brien of New Marlboro; two daughters, Mae N. Losaw of Ashley Falls and Frances A. Stalker of Hartsville; a sister, Martha "Gertrude" Evans of Buffalo, N.Y.; a brother, Jasper Romano of Stockbridge; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Margaret R. O'Brien of Great Barrington died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002. She was predeceased by her grandson, Robert Sullivan; her brother, Carl Romano, and her sister, Eleanor Bondi. She is survived by her sons, Harold F. O'Brien and his wife, Setsuko, of Fairfield, Calif., and John A. O'Brien and his wife, Eva, of New Marlboro; her daughters, Mae N. Losaw and her husband, David, of Ashley Falls, and Frances A. Stalker and her husband, Allen, of Hartsville; her sister, Martha "Gertrude" Evans of Buffalo, N.Y.; her brother, Jasper Romano of Stockbridge; 10 grandchildren, Donna, Evelyn, Ann, John Jr., Allen, Myra, Nathan, Bruce, Wayne and Joe; 22 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. The funeral will be conducted Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 11 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Charles Van Ausdall, pastor of First Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home.
