Leonard Magruder

Leonard Magruder, 67, of Tyringham Road and 404 Ridgemont Ave., San Antonio, died yesterday at 4 Harbour Lane, Monterey. Born in Bay City, Texas, on Oct. 30, 1934, son of Dalton and Jean Watson Magruder, he graduated from Patti Welder High School in Victoria, Texas, in 1952. He attended Texas A&M College for two years and transferred to the University of Texas in Austin, where he received bachelor of science degrees in sociology and business administration. After graduation, he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Adana, Turkey. He was discharged as a lieutenant. Mr. Magruder was senior vice president of Frost National Bank in San Antonio, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the board of directors of the San Antonio Symphony, a member of the Mind Science Foundation in San Antonio, and chairman of the board and president of New Age School. He also was on the finance committee for the Center for Peace through Culture. He and his wife, the former Sharon Burnett, were married July 25, 1964, in San Antonio. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Lisa Magruder of San Antonio and Amy Magruder of Austin; a brother, Walter Magruder of Houston, and a sister, Alice Jean Timberlake of Austin. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Private services for Leonard Magruder, who died Sept. 6, 2002, will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to the Center for Peace through Culture in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, which is in charge of arrangements.
