A. Edward Cielakie

A. Edward Cielakie, 94, of 61 Porter St. died yesterday at home. Born in Lowell on Dec. 27, 1907, son of Peter and Blanche Mrozka Cielakie, he was a 1922 graduate of Lowell High School. He also was valedictorian of his class at the University of Maine, where he majored in government service. He moved to North Adams in 1991. Mr. Cielakie was employed as an electronics equipment inspector for the U.S.government for more than 23 years. He retired in 1965 and moved to Florida, where he resided for 17 years. He was a communicant of Notre Dame Church and a former communicant of St. Timothy's Church in Lady Lake, Fla. He was a member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 2365 of Hollywood, Fla., and of the Mary Spitzer Center for the Elderly. His wife, the former Jeannette Pauline Beaudoin Volkmann, whom he married Sept. 19, 1958, died Feb. 11, 1991. He leaves a stepdaughter, Carlyne Mills, and his caregiver, Paul Cowlin, with whom he resided; a stepson, Clayton Volkmann of Evansville, Ind., and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for A. Edward Cielakie will be Thursday, Sept. 12, at 10:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at Notre Dame Church in North Adams. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 9 until the time of the funeral. Survivors include stepdaughter, Carlyne Mills, step-granddaughter, Candace Mills, and caregiver, Paul Cowlin, with whom he resided; step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, Mark and Lori Mills, Kacie Jo Mills and Madison Mills of Clarksburg; M/Sgt. USAF Douglas E. and Silke Mills and Santana Mills of Germany; Kristin Mills Legge and Cameron Mills Legge of Tempe, Ariz.; Joseph P. Mills of Sarasota, Fla.; Diana Lynn and Dennis Simpson, Emily Lynn Simpson, Clay Edward Volkmann, Tina DeCroix, Taylor Renee DeCroix, Blake Kemp, Ginger Lee Eppler, Carly Eppler, Miles David Eppler, all of Indiana; Toni Rae and Don Baugh, Lauren Christine Baugh and Alex Wayne Nelson of North Carolina. He was predeceased by two sisters and three brothers, Marie, Mildred, Chester, Henry and Anthony Cielakie.
