Frederick H. Hoffstedt

Frederick H. Hoffstedt, 69, of 33 Aqua St. died Friday evening at Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center after a short illness. Born in Austerlitz, N.Y., on May 17, 1931, son of Herman C. and Mildred Dessoir Hoffstedt, he was a 1951 graduate of Chatham (N.Y.) High School. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as a sergeant with the 3rd Infantry. Following the war, he moved to Pittsfield and had resided in Lanesboro since 1960. Mr. Hoffstedt was employed by GE as a machinist in the power transformer department, retiring in 1989 after 35 years of service. He was active in the union and served as a steward. A golfer, he was a member of Pontoosuc Country Club. He was also a member of the American Legion and the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. He leaves his former wife, the former Elodie M. Smith; a son, Christopher Hoffstedt of Lanesboro; two sisters, Helen Simmons of Chatham and Irene Myers of Winter Springs, Fla., and two granddaughters. He also leaves his longtime companion, Carol Kingston of Castleton, N.Y. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Frederick H. Hoffstedt, 69, died at Albany Medical Center on Friday, Oct. 4, 2002. He also leaves his daughter-in-law, Kirsten Hoffstedt, and two granddaughters, Taylor-Anne and Katharina Hoffstedt, both of Lanesboro. The funeral will be Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 11 at DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St, Pittsfield. Calling hours will be Tuesday, Oct. 8, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. "For those who were fortunate enough to have Fred touch their lives, he was a loving father, grandfather, faithful companion and friend." If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to Lanesboro Elementary School in care of the funeral home.
