Thomas Ventura

Thomas Ventura, 96, of 1 Berkshire Square died yesterday morning at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield. Born in Palermo, Sicily, on Jan. 10, 1906, son of Salvatore and Alfonsa Scanella Ventura, his family emigrated to the United States when he was 2 and settled in New York City. He attended schools in New York and New Jersey. He was a Navy veteran. While a resident of Paterson, N.J., Mr. Ventura was employed as an engineer for the state of New Jersey for many years, retiring in 1971. He resided in Miami Beach, Fla., for some time, then moved to Pittsfield and North Adams before settling in Adams. He attended Berkshire Hills Seventh-day Adventist Church in Lanesboro. He leaves his wife, the former Emily LoPresto, whom he married June 26, 1994. Besides his wife, he leaves a stepson, Kenneth Rudd of Newton, N.J.; five stepdaughters, Patricia Balsamo of Pittsfield, Jennifer Young of Cheshire, Diane Farina of Norwich, Conn., Barbara Valentine of Wellsboro, Pa., and Rosemary Murphy of Hixon, Texas; 19 stepgrandchildren and 23 stepgreat-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Thomas Ventura will be conducted Monday at 11 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS by Pastor Gary Wagner of Berkshire Hills Seventh-day Adventist Church in Lanesboro. Burial will be at a later date on the family plot in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Berkshire Hills Seventh-day Adventist Church in care of the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247. He was predeceased by his sister and brother, Rose Ventura and Joseph Ventura.
