Helen A. Calvano

Helen A. Calvano, 78, formerly of Silver Street, died Saturday morning at Fairoaks Hospital in Fairfax, Va. She had resided in Centreville, Va., with her daughter, Carol Dolan, for the past year. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 21, 1924, daughter of Guiseppe and Pitrina Dolcimascolo, she was a graduate of Madison High School there. She was employed by various restaurants in Manhattan. Following retirement,, she and her husband, Alfred J. Calvano, moved to Austerlitz, N.Y., and then to Great Barrington. They were active in the Great Barrington Senior Center. Her husband, whom she married April 19, 1952, died Nov. 27, 2001. Besides her daughter, she leaves twin sons, Salvatore J. Calvano of Seaford, N.Y., and Alfred J. Calvano Jr. of Woodside, N.Y.; a sister, Catherine Poli of Las Vegas, and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Helen A. Calvano died Oct. 26, 2002. She also leaves four grandchildren, Thomas J. Calvano, Jennifer Calvano, Thomas J. Dolan III and Kristen Calvano; several nieces and nephews, and her sister, Catherine Poli of Las Vegas. She was predeceased by two brothers, Charles Dolcimascolo and Nero Dolcimascolo, and two sisters, Mary Lopresti and Josephine Leonardi. The family will receive friends tomorrow, Oct. 29, from 3 to 7 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. The funeral will be at a time to be announced.
