Mildred T. Roys

Mildred T. Roys, 91, formerly of Undermountain Road, died Saturday at Timberlyn Heights. Born in Sheffield on March 10, 1911, daughter of Wilfred and May Trescott Roys, she was educated there. She owned and operated a youth hostel in Sheffield from the 1940s through the 1970s, supplying sheets, blankets and lodging for travelers on foot, horseback or bicycle. Ms. Roys was a member of Christ Church, Episcopal, in Sheffield and a Sheffield historian. She leaves a niece, Judy Perry of Sheffield, and her friend and caregiver, Margaret Candee of South Egremont. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Mildred T. Roys, who died Nov. 30, 2002, will be conducted Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 9 at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Susan Crampton. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to Christ Church, Episcopal, or to the Sheffield Historical Society, c/o the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. She leaves her dear friend and caregiver, Margaret Candee of South Egremont, her dear friend and employer, Ethel Storer of Sheffield, and a niece, Judy Perry of Sheffield. Her brother, Charles, died March 8, 1995.
