Agostino "Gus" Baldessarini

Agostino "Gus" Baldessarini, 80, of 35 Lyman St. died Tuesday at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he was admitted Monday following several months of failing health. Born in North Adams on Aug. 28, 1922, son of John and Catherine Fachini Baldessarini, he was educated in local schools, including Drury High School. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served as an aviation machinist's mate third class. He served from Oct. 5, 1942, through Nov. 15, 1945. He was employed by the former James Hunter Machine Co., now Morrison Berkshire, for more than 30 years, retiring as foreman of the shipping department in 1982. Previously, he had worked at the former Sprague Electric Co., the former Wall-Streeter Shoe Co. and the U.S. Postal Service, all in North Adams. Mr. Baldessarini was a lifelong communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. He was a member of the Frank S. Stiles Post 125 American Legion in North Adams and the Hunter Quarter Century Club. He leaves his wife of 55 years, the former Florence Esther Laino, whom he married Feb. 8, 1947, in St. Anthony of Padua Church; a daughter, Lynn A. Horrigan of Burnt Hills, N.Y.; a son, Craig Baldessarini of North Adams; and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Agostino "Gus" Baldessarini will take place Friday, Dec. 20, at 9:30 from the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Francis of Assisi Church with the Rev. Daniel O'Hear, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church, officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, Dec. 19, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for any charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home. Survivors include his beloved wife, Florence E. Laino Baldessarini; loving children and spouses, Bernard T. and Lynn A. Baldessarini Horrigan and Craig P. and Catherine Betti Baldessarini; cherished grandchildren, Keith P. Horrigan and Shannon M. Horrigan; and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph Baldessarini, Leonard Baldessarini and John Baldessarini Jr.
