Ethel Louise Battis McClelland

Ethel Louise Battis McClelland, 79, of 2 Tower Ave., died early yesterday morning at Williamstown Commons, where she had been admitted Saturday. She had resided in Clarksburg and North Adams until moving to Adams more than three years ago. Born in North Adams on April 12, 1923, daughter of Arthur J. and Flavilla Jordan Burr, she attended Clarksburg Elementary School and graduated from Drury High School in North Adams. Mrs. McClelland was employed by General Cable Corp. in Pownal, Vt., for 11 years and later in Williamstown for several years, retiring in May 1983. Prior to that, she was employed by the former Strong-Hewat Co. in Clarksburg for 27 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of North Adams. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and arts and crafts. Her first husband, Nelson Battis, whom she married June 30, 1951, died Nov. 10, 1961. Her husband, Robert M. McClelland, died April 21, 1995. She leaves a daughter, Janet M. McClelland of Adams, and a grandson. FUNERAL NOTICE -- She also leaves her grandson, Robert J. McClelland of Adams, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Janet DeGrenier, and two brothers, Arthur and William Burr. The funeral will be Monday, Dec. 23, at 10 from AUGÉ-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by services conducted at 11 in First Baptist Church, North Adams, by the Rev. Joseph DeCosta, pastor. Burial will be in the spring in Clarksburg Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the hospice program of VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home.
