Theodore DeMarco

Theodore DeMarco, 95, of Hicks Avenue died Sunday at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington. He owned and operated DeMarco's Sporting Goods for many years on Northside Drive. Born in North Adams, Mass., on Feb. 6, 1907, son of Paul and Rose Siciliano DeMarco, he was educated in schools there. He was a Bennington County deputy sheriff for more than 30 years, serving under Sheriff John Maloney. Before running the sporting goods store, Mr. DeMarco operated a grocery store. In earlier years, he was employed by his uncle, Jerry Siciliano, at the former Venetian Dairy in North Adams, and by various shoe companies. He retired in 1982. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart-St. Francis de Sales Church, a life member of Bennington Elks Lodge 567 and Stamford Fish and Game Club, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 1575, in Johnstown, N.Y. His wife, the former Alice Blanquart, whom he married April 15, 1930, in Notre Dame Church in North Adams, died Dec. 2, 1992. He leaves a sister, Elizabeth Paquin of Williamstown, Mass.; a brother, Louis A. DeMarco of North Adams, and his great-grandniece and caregiver, Jennifer Free of Bennington. FUNERAL NOTICE -- At Mr. DeMarco's request, a memorial Mass celebrating the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered Thursday, Jan. 2, at 10 at Our Lady of Mercy Shrine, 1288 Massachusetts Avenue, North Adams. There will be no calling hours. Private interment will take place at the family lot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Should friends desire memorial contributions may be made to Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center through Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, greatnieces and greatnephews. Predeceased by four sisters, Irene DeMarco, Mary Folino, Rita Abuisi and Theresa Babeu, and five brothers, Paul, John, Angelo, Lawrence and Thomas DeMarco.
