William A. "Chick" Walker

William A. "Chick" Walker, 76, of 106 Railroad St., died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Lee on Aug. 7, 1926, son of Robert and Ruth Watson Walker, he graduated from Lee High School, where he played football, basketball and baseball. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served on a PT boat. Mr. Walker was employed with David Lane Landscaping Co. in Lenox at the time of his death. He also had worked at the former Smith Paper Co.; for Raymond Coles in tennis court construction and for the former Clark Aiken Co. He was a former coach for the Lee Little League, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and horse racing. In 1949, he played on the Lee Sons of Italy baseball team, which advanced to the national finals in Wichita, Kansas. He leaves his wife, the former Doris LaGrant, whom he married July 4, 1949; five sons, William R. Walker, Donald F. Walker, James A. Walker, all of Lee, and John T. Walker of Pittsfield and Robert J. Walker of Tyringham; three daughters, Patricia A. Deveneau and Jane M. Walker, both of Otis, and Susan T. Walker of Lee, and 17 grandchildren. He was predeceased by three children, Steven Walker, Michelle Walker and Howard Walker. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service for William A. "Chick" Walker, who died Feb. 15, 2003, will be held in the spring at Fairmont Cemetery in Lee. There will be no visiting hours.
