Walter F. Erdeski

Walter F. Erdeski, 78, of 101 North Summer St. and for many years a resident of 27 East Road, where he maintained a farm, died of cancer Monday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he was admitted Thursday. Born in Adams on Sept. 15, 1924, son of Karl and Victoria Pytko Erdeski, he attended Adams public schools. He joined the Merchant Marine during World War II, and later served in the Army during the Korean War, receiving an honorable discharge. Mr. Erdeski was employed by the former W.R. Grace Co. as a compounder in the chemical section. He retired in 1986. He was first employed by Cariddi Wholesale in North Adams and later worked in the power transformer department at GE in Pittsfield. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus' Church and a member of the Maple Grove Civic Club. He enjoyed farming, and spent much of his time gardening. His wife, the former Mary Kabastura, whom he married Aug. 7, 1956, in Proctor, Vt., died July 31, 1995. He leaves a daughter, Elaine F. Erdeski, with whom he resided; two sons, Walter F. Erdeski Jr. of Cheshire and Robert S. Erdeski of North Adams, and eight grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A prayer service in the Roman Catholic tradition will be offered Thursday, Feb. 20, at 2 at McBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Liberty St., Adams. The service will be said by the Rev. Bonaventure Moccia, CP. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 1 until the time of the service. Memorial donations are suggested by the family to the North Berkshire chapter of the American Red Cross' Patient Transportation Unit in care of the funeral home. Mr. Erdeski is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Leslie Erdeski of North Adams, and a surrogate family member, Amy Miglorie of Littleton, Conn.
