Lillian F. Bendross

Lillian F. Bendross, 87, of 46 Railroad St. died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Birmingham, Ala., on Jan. 16, 1916, she was the daughter of Ulysses and Effie Black Finley. Her family moved in 1927 to New York City, where she graduated from George Washington High School and attended City College. She moved to Great Barrington in 1946 and to Lee in 1952. Mrs. Bendross was employed by as a bookkeeper the former High Fidelity Magazine, which was founded in the Berkshires, in New York City and later in Great Barrington. She retired in the 1980s. She studied painting with Gloria Malcom Arnold of Lee. Her works were displayed at various locations in Pittsfield and at the Lee Library. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Lenox and of its women's group. She was a competitive bridge player and did volunteer work for Meals on Wheels. Her husband, John M. Bendross, whom she married in 1943, died in 1977. She leaves a brother, William D. Finley of St. Petersburg, Fla., and three sisters, Rosamund E. Finley of Lee, Dorothy F. Berry of Amherst, Celeste F. Savage of Lee. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Lillian Bendross will be held Friday afternoon at 1 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, with the Rev. Eric M. Dupee, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Lenox, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to the United Methodist Church in Lenox in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238.
