Joseph A. Carnevale

Joseph A. Carnevale, 81, of 150 Bull Hill Road, died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 28, 1921, son of Dominic and Philomena Renzi Carnevale, he attended Pittsfield schools. A decorated Army veteran of World War II, he served in Northern France and in the Rhineland, and received the Purple Heart after being wounded in Europe on Dec. 3, 1944. Mr. Carnevale was employed for 35 years by GE in the power transformer department in Pittsfield, retiring in 1987. He also trained thoroughbred horses and operated Carnevale's Riding Stables for 20 years. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 448 of Pittsfield, and the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. He leaves four sons, David A. Carnevale, John E. Carnevale and Richard B. Carnevale, all of Pittsfield, and Joseph D. Carnevale of Palm Bay, Fla.; three brothers, Anthony Carnevale, Robert Carnevale and Charles Carnevale, all of Pittsfield; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Joseph A. Carnevale, 81, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003. Beloved father of David A. Carnevale and his wife, Linda, and John E., Joseph D. and Richard B. Carnevale. Loving grandfather of Marc Carnevale, Justin Carnevale, Davy Carnevale, Michael Gonzalez, Jonathan Carnevale, Richard Carnevale Jr., Thomas Gallant Carnevale, Jamie Carnevale and Jared Carnevale. Loving great-grandfather of Nicholas and Tyler Carnevale. Dear brother of Anthony, Robert and Charles Carnevale. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Feb. 24, at 11 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. John H. Ford, CSS. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., will be Monday, Feb. 24, from 9 to 10:30. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home. He was predeceased by a brother, Americo Carnevale, and a sister, Philomena Findling.
