Elvira D. Portiere

Elvira D. Portiere, 91, of 1844 Jacob's Ladder Road, died Friday at Laurel Lake Center in Lee, where she had resided for 18 months. Born in Lime Rock, Conn., on July 10, 1911, daughter of Andrea and Domonica Oreo Nolli, she went to Italy as a child with her parents and returned to the United States at the age of 15, settling in Pittsfield. She moved to Lee in 1986 and to Becket in 1993. Mrs. Portiere was employed by GE in Pittsfield for 36 years, retiring in 1977. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Lee and a former communicant of Mount Carmel Church in Pittsfield. She was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs, and charter member of the Italian American Club of Pittsfield. Her husband, Alessandro "Alex" Portiere, whom she married Nov. 19, 1938, in Mount Carmel Church, died Nov. 6, 1995. She leaves her son, Battista "Batt" Portiere of Becket, with whom she had resided, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Elvira D. Portiere, 91, will be Tuesday at 9:15 from KELLY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mary's Church. Burial will be private at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, March 10, from 6 to 8. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to St. Mary's School in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee. Mrs. Portiere also leaves her daughter-in-law Sally Portiere; her beloved grandchildren Michael, Robert and Marc Portiere and Robin Rand; her great-grandchildren Amenda and Joshua Rand and Melanie and Cassandra Portiere.
