Robert Lawrence Barschdorf

Robert Lawrence Barschdorf, 85, of 79 Bellevue Ave. died Thursday evening at home. Born in Adams on March 12, 1918, son of Charles and Anna Riedel Barschdorf, he graduated from the former Adams High School in 1936. He also graduated from the former Bliss Business College in North Adams and from the American Institute of Banking. He was a veteran of World War II, serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Core in both the European and Pacific theaters. Before that, he served with Company M, 22nd Infantry, of the Massachusetts National Guard. Mr. Barschdorf worked in banking most of his life. He was employed by the former First National Bank of Adams; Adams Co-Operative Bank, where he served as assistant treasurer, and Williamstown Savings Bank, where he was a loan officer. From 1973 to 1983, he worked for the town of Adams at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. After semi-retiring in 1983, he worked part time there and for the Hoosac Water Quality District in Williamstown. He retired in 1995. He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Burnette-Bednarz Post 1995 VFW and Berkshire Lodge of Masons AF & AM. He was a former member of the Adams Lions Club, the former Adams Male Glee Club and the former Adams Players. He was also a member of the Golden Varsity, volunteering at C.T. Plunkett Elementary School, and the Adams Council on Aging. He enjoyed fishing. He and his wife, the former Eunice M. Vuillemot, would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary June 15. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Lynn F. Barschdorf of Adams; a daughter, Linda M. Tatro of Williamstown, and two grandsons. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A private funeral for Robert L. Barschdorf will be held at AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams. The Rev. Michael McCue, rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Arthur Leary Memorial Fund for Camp Berment at St. Mark’s Church, or to the Berkshire Humane Society through the funeral home. Mr. Barschdorf is also survived by two grandsons, Marc Krutiak of Boston and Jason Krutiak of Orlando, Fla.
