Marvin T. Casivant

Marvin T. Casivant, 71, of East Stahl Road, Ashley Falls, died Tuesday at home. Born in North Chatham, N.Y., on Jan. 16, 1932, son of Edward H. and Julia C. Longdyke Casivant, he attended former Roeliff-Jansen High School in Hillsdale, N.Y. He moved to Ashley Falls 54 years ago. Mr. Casivant was employed by Sheffield Plastics, retiring in 1991 with more than 32 years of service. Prior to that, he had worked for Federal Homes and Dempsey’s Garage, both in Great Barrington. He was a charter and 40-year member and former deacon of Grace Bible Church in Ashley Falls. He restored antique cars and dealt in antique tractors, and was a member of the Granite State Gas & Steam Engine Association in New Hampshire, the Connecticut Antique Machinery Association in New Milford, and the Century Museum Village and Collectors Association and the Hudson Valley Old Time Power Association, both in New York state. He and his wife, the former Evelyn M. Fuller, were married Dec. 1, 1962. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Marvin H. Casivant of Ashley Falls; three daughters, Julie Burghardt of Bristol, N.H., Susan Pratt of Pittsfield and Jeanne Veron of Collinsville, Ala.; a stepson, Dennis Hankey of Sheffield; two stepdaughters, Eileen Kellog of Clayton and Susan Knuffke of East Canaan, Conn.; a sister, Almida Varsegi of Coventry, Conn.; three brothers, Ned Casivant of Hudson, N.Y., and Ben Casivant and Henry Casivant, both of Mellonville, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two stepgrandsons. He also leaves his former wife, Mary Casivant of Pittsfield. Another daughter, Michelle Clark, died in 1998. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Marvin Casivant will be conducted Saturday, March 29, at 1 at Grace Bible Church in Ashley Falls by the Rev. Ed Eastman, pastor. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 28, from 4 to 7 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Bible Church Driveway Fund through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
