Alexander Michael Groves

Alexander Michael Groves, 42, of 30 Maple St. died Saturday morning in the emergency room at North Adam Regional Hospital after suffering a heart attack at home. Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 5, 1960, son of Alexander J. and Lorraine Paquette Groves, he was a 1979 graduate of the former Adams Memorial High School. He also graduated in 1983 from the former North Adams State College, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, where he was manager of the school’s radio station, WWJJW. At the time of his death, he was a permanent substitute teacher for the Adams-Cheshire Regional School District. He had previously been employed as a correspondent for the North Adams Transcript for 6 1/2 years, and held positions with news media in Rhode Island, Long Island, N.Y., and Southern Berkshire. Mr. Groves was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas, where he was an altar server for many years. He was a fan of Notre Dame football and Yankees baseball. He enjoyed reading science-fiction journals and was a disciple of musical interpretations. Besides his parents, of Adams, he leaves a brother, Daniel J. Groves of Adams. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for the life of Al Groves will be celebrated Tuesday, April 2, at 10 at Notre Dame Church in Adams. The family will receive friends today from 5 to 7 at MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Liberty St. Burial will follow in Maple Street Cemetery, Adams. His brother, Joseph P. Groves, died in 1959. He also leaves many aunts and uncles.
