Walter Krypel

Walter Krypel, 83, of 9 Springs Road died yesterday morning at the Vermont Veterans Home of Bennington after a long chronic illness. Born in Adams on Feb. 20, 1920, son of Peter and Josephine Krupa Krypel, he was a 1938 graduate of the former Adams High School, where he served as co-captain of the football team. Following graduation, he played with the semipro St. Stanislaus Kostka, the Whitney Packers and the Crusader Eleven football organizations. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1941 and served as an aviation mechanic technician on the Grumman “Wildcat” and Chance Vought “F4U.” He served in the South Pacific theater and was involved in the invasion and securing of Guadalcanal and Guam. He was discharged in 1945 with the rank of master technical sergeant. He was employed by the former W.R. Grace Co. for more than 39 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1975. He was also an assistant high school football coach. Mr. Krypel was a communicant of Notre Dame/St. Thomas’ Parish. He was a member of the Polish National Association, the Adams Town Meeting, the Adams Taxpayers’ Association, the Landfill Study Committee and the Adams Post 16 American Legion. He and his wife, the former Emma T. Luczynski, were married in November 1961. Besides his wife, he leaves a stepson, Charles J. Alongi of Adams; three sisters, Blanche Zubrowski of Torrington, Conn., Mary Konieczny of Adams and Edna Penszar of Tucson, Ariz., and a granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Walter Krypel’s life on Wednesday, April 2, at 11 in Notre Dame Church, Adams, followed by burial in the Veterans’ Lot in Bellevue Cemetery. The family will be in attendance to receive friends for calling hours tomorrow from 4 to 7 at MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Liberty St. The family suggests memorial donations to the Notre Dame/St. Thomas’ Parish or to the Alzheimer’s Association through the funeral home. He leaves his granddaughter, Angela Marie Alongi of Huntsville, Ala. He was predeceased by three brothers, John, Frank and Stanley Krypel.
