A. Edward Horton

A. Edward Horton, 88, of 20 Glen St. died Saturday evening at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he had been a patient for one day. Born in Adams on May 19, 1914, son of Alexander and Agnes Phelps Horton, he was a 1933 graduate of the former Adams Memorial High School and a 1935 graduate of the former Bliss Bus-iness College in North Adams. Mr. Horton was employed as an accountant with the former New England Lime, now Pfizer Inc., for 37 years, retiring in 1974. He had also worked as a crossing guard for the town for 12 years. In the Masons, he was a past master of the Berkshire Lodge and a past high priest of the Corinthian Chapter. He served on the Berkshire Council R&SMMM in Pittsfield, the St. Paul Commandry in North Ad-ams and as a member of the Ad-ams Town Report Committee. He sang in the Adams Male Glee Club. His wife, the former Anita M. Filiere, whom he married July 31, 1937, died Jan. 23, 2000. He leaves two daughters, JoAnne L. Ziaja of Adams and Lisa-beth A. Feustel of Delmar, N.Y.; two brothers, Lester Horton and Clyde Horton, both of Adams, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for A. Edward Horton, who died Saturday, March 29, 2003, will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at a later date in Bellevue Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children in care of DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME, 121 North State Road, Cheshire, MA 01225. He was predeceased by two brothers, Russell Horton of Cheshire and Ralph Horton of Williamstown.
