Katherine “Katie” Morin

Katherine “Katie” Morin, 92, formerly of 382 Old Columbia St., died Saturday at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua, N.H., where she was admitted earlier that day. Born in North Adams on June 18, 1910, daughter of Romeo and Pierina Lozza DellaBianca, she attended local schools and moved in 1917 to Voghera, province of Pavia, Italy, where she graduated from the Scuola Complementare in Voghera. She returned to North Adams in 1927 and later took evening courses to graduate from Drury High School in 1941. She attended the nursing school at McLean Hospital in Belmont, which was affiliated with Massa-chusetts General Hospital, and completed her training in Oct-ober 1944. She received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y., in 1953. She moved to Courville at Aynsley for Assisted Living in Nashua, N.H., in 2001. She enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps on April 16, 1945, during World War II and served as a second lieutenant with the 35th General Hospital in the Philippines. She was honorably discharged Dec. 22, 1945. Mrs. Morin was employed as registered nurse by the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Leeds from 1957 until retiring in 1972. Prior to that, she was a clinical supervisor at the former Henry W. Bishop Memorial School of Nursing at Pittsfield General Hospital, where she trained nurses for several years. She had first been employed by the former Arnold Print Works in North Adams for more than 10 years, and, after the war, with the nursing staff of the Williams College infirmary. She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church in North Adams and was a former member of the Massachusetts and the Berkshire County nurses’ associations, volunteering for many of their committees. Her husband, Armand Alfred Morin, whom she married May 31, 1958, in Leeds, died Oct. 4, 1979. She leaves her caregivers, Albert and Ann Ciampa of Hollis Crossing in Nashua. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Katherine D. “Katie” Morin, RN, will be Saturday, April 5, at 9:30 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Parish Center, 64 Marshall St., North Adams, with the Rev. Daniel J. O’Hear, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the DellaBianca-Morin family plot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for St. Anthony’s Church and Centennial Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice through the funeral home, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of the arrangements. She also leaves several cousins including Florence Netherwood, James Gazzaniga of Williamstown and Col. Louis Gazzaniga of San Antonio, Texas.
