Nicholas R. “Nick” Klein

Nicholas R. “Nick” Klein, 77, of 34 Leonard Ave. died early Wednesday evening at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Adams on Sept. 21, 1925, son of Nicholas T. and Elizabeth Pritz Klein, he was 1944 graduate of the former Adams Memorial High School. While employed, he attended school for approximately eight and one half years and earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from the former North Adams State College, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps during World War II and served as a top turret gunner on a B24 bomber in the Pacific theater. He was employed by GE in Pittsfield in the ordnance department, retiring in 1987 after 36 years of service. Mr. Klein was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame/St. Thomas in Adams. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and the Adams Post 160 of the American Legion. A handyman, he built a house for his son, Dennis, and one for himself and his wife. He and his wife, the former Norma Fortier, were married July 5, 1948. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Dennis P. Klein of Atlanta, Ga., and Kerry M. Klein of Windsor; and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Nicholas R. Klein will take place Monday, April 7, at 10 in Notre Dame Church, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. O’Hear, pastor of the Parish of Notre Dame and St. Thomas Aquinas. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 8 until the time of the service at the TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Northern Berkshire or the charity of the donor’s choice through the funeral home. He leaves his two grandchildren, Michael P. Klein and Kelly M. Klein, and his former daughter-in-law, Sharyn Dean Klein, who continues to a part of the family. Two sisters, Elizabeth Klein and Ruth Klein Cook, are deceased.
