Mattie Beatrice Wilson

Mattie Beatrice Wilson, 94, of Main Street died Wednesday at Fairview Commons Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since 1998. Born in Athens, Ga., on Nov. 25, 1908, daughter of Alexander and Rosa Colquitt Pope, she attended schools there. She lived in New Haven, Conn., before moving to Great Barrington . A member of the AME Zion Church, she enjoyed baking. Her husband, Otis Eugene Wilson, died in 1958. She leaves seven sons, Otis Wilson of Phoenix, Ariz., Peter Wilson, Eugene Wilson, Melvin Wilson, Donald Wilson and Carl Wilson, all of Great Barrington, and Thomas Wilson of Becket; seven daughters, Rosa Councel and Lois Jones of Brooklyn, N.Y., Hazel Scott of Pittsfield, Eleanor Haywood and Mattie Wilson, both of Springfield, and Evelyn West and Lelia Wilson, both of Great Barrington; more than 45 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two daughters, Doris Wilson and Minnie Spellman. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mattie was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. All who knew her loved and were drawn to her by her warm spirit and inviting smile. Funeral services for Mattie B. Wilson will be conducted on Monday, April 7, at 11 at Clinton AME Zion Church in Great Barrington with the Rev. Esther Dozier, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Great Barrington. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 6, 2003, from 2 until 5 p.m. at the FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington.
