Wilfred Walter Pierce

Wilfred Walter Pierce, 70, of 56 Murray Ave. died Monday afternoon at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Adams on Jan. 20, 1933, son of Marion Gardner Pierce of Adams and the late Oliver W. Pierce, he attended schools in Adams and Savoy. He had resided in North Adams for 30 years. Mr. Pierce was employed in the maintenance department at North Adams Regional Hospital for 15 years, retiring in 1998. Prior to that, he was a mechanic with J.T. Bus Lines and the former Scarafoni Ford for several years. He also had operated the former Will’s Taxi in Adams for several years in the early 1970s. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Mount Greylock Camping Club and TOPS. He enjoyed woodworking, building clocks and rocking horses, and restoring antique tractors. Besides his mother of Adams, he leaves his wife, the former Lynne M. Chase, whom he married Dec. 12, 1970; three daughters, Deborah Tower of Charlotte, N.C., Carolyn Crews of Adams, and Michelle Bartlett of North Adams; two sons, Bernard Pierce of Pittsfield, and Michael Pierce of Alcove, N.Y.; a brother, Alfred Pierce of Savoy; two sisters, Myrtle Franceschini and Evelyn Rochelo, both of Adams; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Billy Pierce, and a daughter, Roberta Pierce. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Wilfred Walter Pierce will be Saturday at 9 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by services at 10 at First United Methodist Church, North Adams. The Rev. Susan L. Stewart, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia Society through the funeral home. He was predeceased by two brothers, Oliver Pierce Jr. and Charles Pierce.
