Louis John Davis, 84, of 95 Bracewell Ave. died Tuesday at Williamstown Commons following a long illness. Born in North Adams on Oct. 29, 1918, son of John D. and Rhoda Rizk Davis, he was a 1937 graduate of the former St. Josephâ€™s High School in North Adams. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a teletype operator and cryptographer with the 86th Station Complement Squadron. He served as a corporal in the battles of northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe, receiving several medals. He was last employed by GE as a foreman in the power transformer division, retiring in 1972 with more than 19 years of service. He had also operated a bakery with his brother, George, in Bethel, Conn., and had a partnership with his sister, Helen, in the operation of the former Helenâ€™s Diner in North Adams until 1953. Earlier, he had worked for the former Gale Shoe Co. Mr. Davis was a lifelong communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and a member and soloist in its senior choir for more than 25 years. He was also a member of the Lebanese-American Social Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He leaves his wife of 49 years, the former Shirley A. David, whom he married Sept. 5, 1953; three daughters, Judith Ann Davis of North Adams, Susan Mary Davis of Shrewsbury and Barbara L. Davis-Hassan of Lanesboro; two sons, Robert A. Davis of North Adams and James L. Davis of Elmira, N.Y.; a sister, Krimi Kahwaji of Bennington, Vt.; and seven grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Louis John Davis will take place Monday, April 28, at 10 at the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Burial will follow in the family plot at Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, April 27, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. A sister, Helen Garner, and a brother, George Davis, are deceased.
