Russell Joseph Lussier

Russell Joseph Lussier, 84, of 14 Tyler St., died Monday at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in North Adams on April 9, 1919, son of Joseph A. and Sadie Charbonneau Lussier, he attended the former Notre Dame School and Drury High School. An Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, he entered the service in 1943 and was discharged as a sergeant on Dec. 10, 1945. He served with the 497th Bomb Group, attached to the 20th Air Force, in the Pacific theater. He served on Saipan in the Marianas Islands and spent 16 months overseas. Mr. Lussier was employed for 10 years in the maintenance department at Williams College in Williamstown, retiring in 1981. Before that, he worked for 24 years for Coca-Cola Co. in Pittsfield and Williamstown. He also had worked at the former First National Food stores in Adams and North Adams before the war. He was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and a former member of Dr. George L. Curran VFW Post 996. He enjoyed traveling. His wife, the former Annette L. Currie, whom he married June 14, 1944, died Oct. 8, 1999. He leaves a son, Gary E. Lussier of Newington, Conn., and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Russell J. Lussier will be celebrated Friday, May 9, at 1:30 in Our Lady of Mercy Shrine, North Adams, by the Rev. Daniel J. O’Hear, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Visiting hours at AUGÉ-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 46 North Church St., will be Friday from 11 to 1. Survivors include two grandchildren, Todd B. Lussier of Las Vegas and Brooke C. Lussier of West Haven, Conn.; a cousin, Willard Barber of Adams, and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Leo P. Lussier, is deceased.
