Wilfred William Stack

Wilfred William Stack, 80, of 832 West 36th Lane, Yuma, Ariz., formerly of Adams, died Monday at home of a heart attack. Born Joseph Wilfred William Stack in North Adams on May 26, 1922, son of William C. and Rose Y. Roy Stack, he attended the former Notre Dame School and Drury High School. He moved to Adams in 1942 and was a longtime resident of Marshall Avenue. He moved to Arizona several years ago. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 1896th Engineer Aviation Battery in New Guinea; Manila, Philippines; Yokohama, Japan, and Tokyo. He was honorably discharged in January 1946 as a technical sergeant. Mr. Stack was employed by General Cable Co. in Williamstown, retiring in 1983. He also had worked for the former Ballston Refrigerated Wholesale Co. and Clark Wholesale Co., both in North Adams. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the North Adams and Adams country clubs, and also bowled in the Cornish Wire Bowling League. He leaves his wife, the former Eleanor Peat, whom he married Nov. 11, 1942, and a son, Donald W. Stack, both of Yuma. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Wilfred W. Stack will be celebrated Saturday, May 10, at 10 in Notre Dame Church, Adams. Burial will follow in the family plot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Private viewing for the family will be Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to a charity of the donor’s choice, in care of McBRIDE FUNERAL SERVICE, 6 Liberty St., Adams, MA 01220.
