Robert N. Giroux

Robert N. Giroux, 72, of 63 Notch Road died Tuesday afternoon at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, following a long illness. Born in Adams on Aug. 30, 1930, son of Samuel F. and Anna Kustra Gero, he was a 1948 graduate of the former Adams Memorial High School. A Navy veteran of the Korean War, he entered the service in August 1951 and served with Patrol Squadron 11. He was honorably discharged in 1953. Mr. Giroux was employed in the maintenance department of the former New England Lime Co., now Specialty Minerals, retiring in 1990 after 35 years of service. He also had worked for the former Arnold Print Works and Adams Stove Co. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas and a past commander of the Burnette-Bednarz VFW post. An accomplished woodworker, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and his wife, the former Bernice L. Wandrei, were married in August 1955 in Notre Dame Church. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Richard M. Giroux and David A. Giroux, both of Adams; a daughter, Cynthia A. Placido of Pittsfield; a brother, retired Adams Police Sgt. Richard F. Giroux of Adams, and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Robert N. Giroux will be celebrated Saturday, May 10, at 12:30 in Notre Dame Church, Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 4 to 7 at MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Liberty St. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire, Curran Memorial Highway, North Adams, MA 01247 or to the Adams Ambulance Service, Columbia Street, Adams, MA 01220 or through the funeral home.
