Dante “Dan” Testa

Dante “Dan” Testa, 78, formerly of Baldwin Hill South, died Tuesday at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness, Fla. He had been a resident of Beverly Hills, Fla., since 1999. Born in Mamaroneck, N.Y., on April 6, 1925, son of Albert and Josephine Manna Testa, he was a 1943 graduate of Roe-Jan Regional High School in Hillsdale, N.Y. He graduated from Siena College in 1951, receiving a bachelor’s degree in engineering. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, where he was a gunner. He enlisted in 1943 and was discharged in 1946. He received many commendations. A construction contractor, he built many projects locally, including the Great Barrington Nursing Home, Red Hook (N.Y.) High School and St. Bridget’s Church in Copake, N.Y. He taught architectural and mechanical drafting at Mount Everett Regional School from 1967 to 1978, when he retired. He was building inspector for the town of Egremont for 12 years. He was a life member of the James A. Modolo VFW Post 8348, and a life member of the Minkler Serry American Legion Post 252 of Philmont, N.Y. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He leaves his wife, Patricia Meyette, whom he married April 18, 1978, in Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sons, Albert Testa of Rome, N.Y., and John Testa of Northboro; two daughters, Helen Testa Mannebach of Deland, Fla., and Ruth Roux of Agawam, and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by another daughter, Alice Coon, who died July 17, 1983. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Dante “Dan” Testa, who died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, will be Sunday, May 18, 2003, at 1 at the Hillside Cemetery, North Egremont, with participation from the James A. Modolo VFW Post 8348 and the Minkler Serry American Legion Post 252. There are no calling hours. Donations in Mr. Testa’s memory may be made to the Mount Everett Regional High School Scholarship Fund in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, which is in charge of arrangements.
