Richard Barry Larkin

Richard Barry Larkin, 82, of 6 Manville St. died yesterday at Fairview Hospital. Born in Great Barrington on Jan. 2, 1921, son of Frederick J. and Margaret Barry Larkin, he was a 1938 graduate of the former Searles High School. A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he served four years and received the Purple Heart for wounds received in action on Guadalcanal. Mr. Larkin was employed by Massachusetts Electric Co. as a customer service representative, retiring in 1982 after 34 years of service. He was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church and a member of James A. Modolo VFW Post 8348. He and his wife, the former Gloria E. Viola, were married Jan. 8, 1947, in St. Peter’s Church. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Richard C. Larkin of Alford and Barry Larkin of Great Barrington; two daughters, Cheryl Raifstanger of Alford and Theresa Dragon of Post Falls, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Another son, Charles Larkin, died in September 2002. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Richard Barry Larkin, who died Monday, May 12, 2003, will be Thursday, May 15, at 9 at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Peter’s Church by the Rev. Daniel Papineau, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home tomorrow, May 14, from 4 to 7. Expressions of sympathy in Richard’s memory may be made to the Great Barrington Rotary Student Assistance Fund or to the Fairview Hospital Annual Fund, in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
