Richard Potter Tobey

Richard Potter Tobey, 75, of Green Village, N.J., a native of Great Barrington, died early Sunday morning, May 11, at Kimball Farms Nursing Home in Lenox, where he had resided for the last year. Born on Oct. 22, 1927, son of Dr. Henry Pratt Tobey and Caroline Terwilliger Tobey, he was a graduate of Mercersburg (Pa.) Academy and, after the war, of Champlain College in Plattsburg, N.Y. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Tobey was employed as an auditor and computer programmer by the former Bell Telephone Co. in New Jersey for many years. He enjoyed gardening, golfing and his dogs. He leaves a daughter, Gail Cook of Methuen; his twin brother, James D. Tobey of Iselin, N.J.; a sister, Nancy Hold of Mill River, and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Richard P. Tobey was known for his generous spirit and dry sense of humor. He also leaves his grandchildren, Jonathan and Amy, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Louise Payne, who died in 1990. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
