Jeannette Willett

Jeannette Willett, 102, of formerly of Church Street, died Tuesday at 61 West Mountain Road, the home of her caregiver, Nancy Kelson. Born in St. David, Quebec, on May 26, 1901, daughter of Hormidas and Emilie Pioulette Crepeau, she moved to North Adams with her family at the age of 5 and attended parochial schools there. She moved to Cheshire in 1926. Primarily a homemaker, she and her husband, Leo V. Willett, operated the former Willett’s Market for many years before selling the business in 1955. Mrs. Willett was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church. she enjoyed painting and was a former member of the Pittsfield Art League. An avid reader, she also was a member of the Adams Study Group and Cheshire Reading Club. She enjoyed gardening and cultivated both flowers and vegetables. She was the town’s oldest resident and an article about her recent birthday appeared in The Eagle on May 28. Her husband, a former Cheshire town clerk and president of South Adams Savings Bank, died June 25, 1988, at age 90. They were married in 1922. Besides Kelson, with whom she had resided since 2000, she leaves a son, Dr. Leo V. Willett Jr. of Durham, Conn.; two daughters, Pauline W. Bell of New York City and Jean Ann Biron of Bedford, N.H., 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Jeannette Crepeau Willett, 102, who credited her long life to joy, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
