Herbert Miller Jr., 73
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Herbert "Bud" Miller Jr., 73, of 32 Washington Ave. died Wednesday, June 17, 2003, at home.
Born in Meadville, Pa., on Feb. 15, 1930, son of Herbert Miller Sr. and Grace Broymeyers Miller, he attended schools there. He moved to North Adams in 1986 after residing in Adams for 33 years.
He was drafted into the Army in 1951 and served as a corporal in the communications department of Headquarters Company, 351st Infantry, Trieste United States Forces (TRUST) during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953.
Mr. Miller was employed by Krutiak Construction Co. in Adams, retiring in 1995. He had also worked for the former Anken Chemical Co. in Williamstown, the former Crystal Creamery in Adams as a truck driver for many years, and the former Adams Supermarket for several years.
While in Adams, he was a 13-year member of the Alert Hose Company, Adams Volunteer Fire Department, and a member and past president of the Northern Berkshire Communications Club.
He and his wife, the former Salema Rachel Ziter, were married Sept. 3, 1953, in St. Francis' Church in North Adams.
Besides his wife of 49 years, he leaves a sister, Phyliss Miller of Fort Myers, Fla., and was the loving uncle of several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Shirley Smithy and June Rittinor.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Miller will take place Friday at 10:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church.
Burial with military honors will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested for the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire or to the Eileen Barrett Foundation through the funeral home.
