J. Player Crosby

J. Player Crosby, 61, of 137 Jerusalem Road died Thursday of an apparent heart attack as he was flying his single-engine airplane. He was the president of Lenox Capital, an international investment capital firm based in Great Barrington. Born in New York City on April 8, 1942, son of Henry Ashton and Alice Dunning Crosby, he graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., and received a master’s degree from Corpus Christi College at Oxford University. In addition to Lenox Capital, Mr. Crosby was a founding partner of Finamex International and served as vice president of Salomon Bros from 1972 to 1982. He and his wife, the former Barbara Leventhal, were married Oct. 2, 1971, in Tyringham. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Kit Crosby of New York City; a son, Jay Crosby of New York City; two stepsons, Erik Bruun of Great Barrington and Peter Bruun of Baltimore, and six grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A private memorial service for the family will be held in the near future. There will be no funeral service. Tax-deductible donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the J. Player Crosby Memorial Fund to benefit the Khwai River Research Center at Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, 271 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230, or ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
