Peregrina “Tina” Garcia

Peregrina “Tina” Garcia, 83, of 162 Bull Hill Road died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, following a brief illness. Born in Samiera, province of Gallicia, Spain, on Oct. 24, 1919, daughter of John and Peregrina Martinez Rodino, she was educated there. She emigrated to New York in 1937 and moved to Lanesboro in 1941. Mrs. Garcia was head cook at Lanesboro Elementary School for 30 years. She also worked at the former Camp Wahconah-Potomac in Pittsfield, the former Pontoosuc Lodge in Lanesboro and the former Springs Restaurant in New Ashford. She was a communicant of North American Martyrs Church. Her husband, José Garcia, whom she married Feb. 5, 1939, in the Bronx, N.Y., died Aug. 1, 2002. She leaves two sons, Joseph Garcia Jr. of Hancock, N.H., and John Garcia of Windsor; three sisters, Rosalie Rodino of Santiago, Chile, Elvira Castano of Manhassett, N.Y., and Maria Foley of Briarwood, N.Y.; and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Peregrina “Tina” Garcia died in Pittsfield on Sunday, June 22, 2003. Beloved grandmother to Pamela Garcia of Suffolk, Va., and Paul Garcia of Hancock, N.H. Mrs. Garcia also leaves her daughter-in-law, Cathy Garcia of Windsor, and many nieces and nephews in Spain, Chile and the United States. She was predeceased by a sister, Julie Rodino of Pontevedra, Spain. The funeral will be Thursday, June 26, at 8:15 at DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 in St. Charles’ Church by the Rev. David Raymond. Interment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday, June 25, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the funeral home. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the José & Tina Garcia Scholarship Fund for Lanesboro Elementary School Children, in care of the funeral home. Her son, John, is a longtime teacher at Lanesboro Elementary School. She was sincerely loved by her family and her many friends, for whom she was always there. She kindled in all who knew her a deep respect that stemmed from her helpful kindness, selfless generosity and uncompromising sense of family.
