Marguerite E. “Midge” Viola Lyons

Marguerite E. “Midge” Viola Lyons, 80, of Lenox Road died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada, on June 17, 1923, daughter of Adolph and Claudia Ledger Gallant, Mrs. Lyons was educated in parochial schools after her family moved to Lynn in 1930. She married Joseph S. “Sub” Viola of West Stockbridge in 1946 and moved here in 1950. Mr. Viola died Dec. 13, 1987. Mrs. Lyons worked as a housekeeping supervisor at the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge for seven years, retiring in 1998. Before that, she managed a retail store for many years. She studied energy medicine and became certified in basic and advanced techniques in 1987. She enjoyed sewing and local history, especially that of West Stockbridge, which she chronicled for more than 30 years. She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church and a member of its rosary altar sodality. She leaves her husband, Gerard T. Lyons; a son, Paul J. Viola of Encinitas, Calif.; a daughter, Gail M. Robbins of Monterey, Calif.; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Marguerite E. “Midge” Lyons, who died June 27, will be held at a date to be announced. There will be no calling hours. She was predeceased by a sister, Blanche Hart, and by two brothers, Edward and Esty Gallant. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests expressions of sympathy in her honor to be made to the donor’s favorite charity in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 1230, which is in charge of arrangements.
