Hubert W. Close Jr., 92, of 21 Nancy Ave. died Saturday at Hillcrest Commons, where he had resided for three months. Born in Hartford, Conn., on July 19, 1911, son of Hubert Close Sr., and Marie Durtschi Close, he attended local schools. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Close was employed as a coil winder at GE for 33 years, retiring in 1976. His wife, the former Irene A. Flynn, whom he married Feb. 24, 1945, in St. Maryâ€™s Church, died Dec. 12, 1996. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensionersâ€™ clubs, the GE Rifle and Pistol League, and the National Rifle Association. He leaves a son, John M. Close of Pittsfield, and three sisters, Harriet Ferguson of Ardmore, Pa., Elizabeth Fyfe of Hollis, N.H., and Hilda Northcliff of College Station, Texas. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Hubert W. Close Jr. died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, in Pittsfield. Graveside services will be conducted Friday, Aug. 8, at 11 in St. Josephâ€™s Cemetery by Deacon William Moesley.
