Harold “Hal” Simon

Harold “Hal” Simon, 88, of 65 Whitman Road died yesterday at home. He was a former selectman in Hancock. Born in New York City on Dec. 25, 1914, son of William and Rae Meisner Simon, he attended schools there. He moved to Hancock in 1978. He was employed as a tool and die maker at the Revere Co. on Long Island for many years. In his younger years, he served as the president of Local 1227 United Workers Electrical Union Workers. While in Hancock, he also served on the town Historical Committee and the Board of Health, where he was chairman for 11 years. He and his wife, the former Josephine Sassano, were married Dec. 3, 1938, in New York City. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Judith Raschdorf of Hancock and Barbara Tomaino of Lake Ariel, Pa.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A celebration of the long, useful and interesting life of Harold “Hal” Simon for family and friends will take place at a later date. Private burial will take place in the family plot in Hancock Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for the V.N.A. & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, 521 West Main St., North Adams, which is in charge of arrangements.
