Romeo Reno Paoletti

Romeo Reno Paoletti, 80, of 274 South County Road, Drury, died yesterday at home. Born in Rowe on Sept. 1, 1922, son of Calisto and Modesta Incenelli Paoletti, he attended school in the Hoosac Tunnel section of Rowe and at Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls. A veteran of World War II, he served as a sergeant waist gunner with the 267th Army Air Force Battalion in Europe. After the service, he returned to Rowe. Mr. Paoletti was employed by the Boston & Maine Railroad as a machinist for 34 years, retiring in 1982. Before that, he worked briefly for Brown’s Garage on the Mohawk Trail and for the former Deerfield Glassine Co. in Monroe Bridge. He was a member of Indianhead Snowmobile Club. He and his wife, the former Rita I. Barcomb, would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary Sept. 20. They were married in Notre Dame Church in North Adams. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Richard R. Paoletti of Southboro; two brothers, Antonio Paoletti of Buckland and Rudolph Paoletti of Shelburne Falls; three grandchildren, and a great-grandson. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A service to celebrate the life of Romeo Reno Paoletti will take place Monday at 10:30 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. There will be no calling hours. Survivors include Mr. Paoletti’s daughter-in-law, Bette Saraglow of Southboro; three grandchildren, Nicholas, Allan and Christopher Paoletti, and a great-grandson, Nathan Paoletti. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Paoletti and Theresa Gifford, and three brothers, Armando, Charles and Joseph Paoletti. Memorial donations are suggested for the Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home.
