Sherman Rowley Slaving

Sherman Rowley Slaving, 48, of Evergreen Lane in Woodford, Vt., formerly of Adams, died Thursday evening at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, Vt. Born in Hartford, Conn., on May 6, 1955, son of Eleanor Tillman Fairclough and the late Frank Slaving, he received his education in Bethel, Conn. Mr. Slaving served with the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a nine-year member of the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a lieutenant. He also was a certified emergency medical technician in Connecticut. Through the 1970s and 1980s, he continued his firefighting in Adams. He had previously resided in Great Barrington, Canaan, N.Y., and Stockbridge. Mr. Slaving was a freelance writer for the Berkshire Record and the North Adams Transcript in the 1990s. He received a Thesbian Award for a play he wrote during the 1990s. He enjoyed writing, painting and traveling the flea market circuit. At the time of his death, he was a parts manager at Pete’s Chrysler in Pittsfield. Besides his mother and his stepfather, Everett Fairclough of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., he leaves his wife, the former Barbara Jean Lampiasi; one son, Daniel Slaving of Hope Air Force Base, N.C.; one daughter, Kimberly Slaving of Pittsfield; four stepdaughters, Michelle Maher of Boston and Leigh Maher of New York City, Deni Marauszwski and Erin Marauszwski, both of Pittsfield; two stepsons, Adam Marauszwski and Cole Marauszwski, both of Pittsfield, and six grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday evening, Aug. 11, at 7:30 p.m. at HANSON-WALBRIDGE FUNERAL HOME, 213 West Main St., Bennington, Vt. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 until the time of the service.
