Morton L. Levin

Morton L. Levin, 80, of Silver Street died Friday at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. Born in Chicago on Sept. 22, 1922, son of Sam and Lillian Gannon Levin, he graduated from Senn High School there. He also attended Wright City College and the University of Chicago. He moved to New York City in 1966 and to Sheffield in 1981. An Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, he served in Europe. Mr. Levin was employed by Viking Press, McGraw-Hill Book Cos., and Hearst Corp., all in New York, retiring in 1981. He was first employed by Kroch’s and Brentano’s bookstores in Chicago. He was a volunteer at Berkshire Botanical Garden in Stockbridge and with Elder Services of Berkshire County. He and his wife, the former Susan Belzer, were married Oct. 6, 1943. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Peter Levin of Watertown; a sister, Eileen Belzerof Culver City, Calif., and a brother, Seymour Levin of Highland Park, Ill. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Morton L. Levin, who died Aug. 8, 2003, will be held at a later date. There will be no calling hours.
