Alice L. Murray

Alice L. Murray, 90, of State Road died Friday at Timberlyn Heights Nursing Home in Great Barrington, where she had resided for the past year. She was the owner of the former Little State Line Diner. Born in Lebanon Springs, N.Y., on March 20, 1913, daughter of Hiram and Lavinia Mitchem Turner, she attended the one-room schoolhouse there. She had resided on State Road since the 1940s. When the state took the land her diner was on to build the Massachusetts Turnpike, Mrs. Murray became employed in the laboratory of Becton Dickinson & Co. in Canaan, Conn., retiring in 1975 after 14 years of service. Her husband, Joseph M. Murray, died Dec. 29, 1979. She leaves nieces and nephews and her longtime friends and caregivers, Joseph and Barbara Tremblay of West Stockbridge. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Alice L. Murray of West Stockbridge died Aug. 8, 2003. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Thelma Elliot of Clifton Park, N.Y., and her close, in name “adopted family” Barbara and Joseph Tremblay of West Stockbridge who, for years, helped her maintain her home, lifestyle and independence. The funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 1 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Charles VanAusdall, pastor of First Congregational Church of Great Barrington.
