Velta Kidder

Velta Kidder, 66, of 1100 Mohawk Trail, Lot 21, died yesterday at home. Born in Latvia on July 4, 1937, daughter of Andren and Lucy Anna Paulis Sparins, she emigrated to the United States in 1947 with her family and settled in Minnesota, where she attended school. She also resided in Connecticut and was a longtime resident of Holyoke, until moving to North Adams in the 1980s. While in Connecticut, Mrs. Kidder was a dispatcher for the New Britain Police Department, and also had been employed in the plastics industry. She was a member of Berkshire Hills Seventh-day Adventist Church in Lanesboro. Her husband, Everett L. Kidder, whom she married Jan. 25, 1981, in Springfield, died Aug. 24, 2000. She leaves a son, Edward Varney of West Springfield; a sister, Lidija Davison of Brown Mills, N.J., and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service for Velta Sparins Kidder, who died Aug. 13, 2003, will be conducted Monday at 11 at the family plot in Southview Cemetery by Pastor David Berthiaume. There will be no calling hours. Survivors include two grandchildren, James and Heather Varney.
