Esther V. Loucks

Esther V. Loucks, 75, of Allengate Avenue died yesterday morning at home after a yearlong illness. Born in Warren, Pa., on Nov. 10, 1927, daughter of Martin and Ima Larson Anderson, she was educated there and was a 1945 graduate of Warren High School. Mrs. Loucks was the executive secretary to the dean of faculty at Berkshire Community College from 1964 until 1988. She received the President’s Award for her service to the college at the 1983 commencement exercises. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and a member of its choir. She was an active member of the Springside Greenhouse Group and maintained a perennial garden at her home. She also had enjoyed taking cruises with her husband, swimming and exercising. She was a volunteer at Berkshire Medical Center in the department of surgery and resource room. Her husband, William J. Loucks, whom she married July 2, 1949, died Sept. 19, 1999. She leaves two daughters, Judy C. Bard of Pittsfield and Susan N. Reilly of Syracuse, N.Y.; a sister, Ann Ward of North Warren, Pa., and three grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Esther V. Loucks, age 75, died Aug. 13, 2003. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. The funeral will be Saturday at 8:15 at the funeral home, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Joseph’s Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to the Salvation Army in care of the funeral home, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201. She also is survived by her sons-in-law, Richard F. Bard and James M. Reilly, and her grandchildren, Gregory and Lance Bard and Alanna Reilly, and her close friend, Barbara Nichols. She was predeceased by her sister, Betty Blume, her brother, Holmes “Hogie” Anderson, and her grandson, Jonathan R.J. Bard.
