Sylvia D. Kirby

Sylvia D. Kirby, 90, of Kingston, formerly of Adams, died Sunday at Skilled Care Center at Silver Lake in Kingston. She and her late husband, George H. Kirby, owned and operated Kirby’s Market for 40 years. Born in North Adams on July 13, 1913, daughter of Alfred and Flora LeSage, she attended North Adams schools. She moved to Adams after her marriage. After retiring, she moved to Port Ritchie, Fla., and resided there until the death of her husband in 1986. She moved to Kingston in 1986. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Kingston and an active volunteer at Evanswood Daycare Center for children and at the former Bethesda at Evanswood Nursing Home, now the Skilled Care Center at Silver Lake. She visited with residents and read to them. A eucharistic minister, she also brought communion to them. She also knit bonnets for the newborns. She and her husband had been married 48 years at the time of his death. She leaves two daughters, Jean M. Kuja of Plympton and Linda M. Scully of Halifax, and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Sylvia D. LeSage Kirby, who died Aug. 17, 2003, will be Thursday, Aug. 21, at 9 at SHEPHERD FUNERAL HOME, 216 Main St., Route 106, Kingston, followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated at 10 at St. Joseph’s Church, Kingston. Interment will be Friday, Aug. 22, at 1 in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Joseph’s Church Building Fund, 272 Main St., Kingston, MA 02364. Mrs. Kirby was the sister of the late Leon LeSage and the late Clara Miller.
