Yvonne G. Besaw

Yvonne G. Besaw, 91, formerly of 46 Railroad St. (Hyde Place), died Saturday at the Village at Laurel Lake in Lee. Born in St. Brigide, Quebec, on June 29, 1912, daughter of Napoleon and Delima Cadieux Gendron, she graduated from North Troy High School in Troy, Vt., and received her teaching degree from Lyndon State College in Vermont. She taught in many different school systems throughout Vermont, and moved to Lee 18 years ago, residing at Hyde Place, where she held many leadership positions. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary North Troy Post 28. She enjoyed arts and crafts, particularly fine embroidery, playing bingo and cards, and baking apple pies. She was a Red Sox fan and attended games at Fenway Park into her 80s. Her husband, Roger Besaw, whom she married Feb. 16, 1930, died Jan. 7, 1985. She leaves one son, Alfred R. Besaw of Lebanon, N.H.; two daughters, Muriel Wise Wasel of Clearwater, Fla., and Jeanette Y. Rotondo of Lee; three sisters, Fay St. Onge of Florida, Juliette Lawrence of Essex Junction, Vt., and Georgette Lalime of North Troy; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Yvonne G. Besaw will be celebrated on Friday, Aug. 22, at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea in Newport, Vt., at noon. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery in North Troy, Vt. Calling hours will be Aug. 22 from 10 until the time of the funeral at the CONVERSE RUSHFORD FUNERAL HOME in Newport. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, Aug. 30, at 10 at St. Mary’s Church in Lee. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions in her memory to the American Cancer Society, Vermont Division, 13 Loomis St., Montpelier, VT 05602, or may donate books for children to a local library in her name. Local arrangements are being handled by KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee.
