Esther Springstube O’Neil

Esther Springstube O’Neil, 89, died yesterday at Timberlyn Heights Nursing Home. Born in Housatonic on May 27, 1914, daughter of Frederick and Edith Cobb Springstube, she attended local schools, including the former Searles High School. She was a former resident of Wyantenuck Street. Mrs. Springstube O’Neil was employed by the American Institute of Economic Research for 36 years, retiring in 1997. She also had worked at the former Carr Engineering Co. for 15 years and as a welder at GE in Pittsfield from 1941 to 1946. She was a member of Housatonic Congregational Church. She enjoyed knitting for various people and events. She leaves a son, Charles T. O’Neil of Old Chatham, N.Y.; a brother, George Springstube of West Stockbridge, three grandchildren and a great-grandson. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Esther Cobb Springstube O’Neil, native and longtime resident of Housatonic, died Aug. 26, 2003. She also is survived by three grandchildren, Bret, Terry and Michael O’Neil, and a great-grandson, Logan. A sister, Freda Pellegrini, died in 1980. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME. The funeral will be conducted Friday, Aug. 29, at 10 at the funeral home by the Rev. Ann Alvord, pastor of Housatonic Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
