Neils C. Kristensen Sr

Neils C. Kristensen Sr., 79, of 20 Umbagog Road died Friday morning at home. He was the founder of Lansen Mold Co. Born in Lanesboro on June 6, 1924, son of Rasmus and Irene King Kristensen, he was a 1941 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1946 graduate of the May Engineering Apprenticeship Program. In 1960, Mr. Kristensen founded Lansen Mold Co. in Berkshire, retiring as its president in 1993. Before that, he worked for Moldmaster Engineering, Marland Mold and in the tool room at GE. He was honored by the Berkshire Plastics Network in 1992 for his contribution to the plastics industry. During the 1970s, he also owned and operated Village Excavation. Mr. Kristensen was a longtime member of the Lanesboro Lions Club, serving in all capacities. He was instrumental in its paper collection program to benefit seeing and hearing programs and in its former motocross track, as well as other local charities. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and motorcycling. His wife, the former Louise A. Aldrich, whom he married Aug. 31, 1943, died July 20. He leaves two sons, Neils C. Kristensen Jr. and Erik J. Kristensen Sr., both of Lanesboro; four daughters, Karen L. Rosier of Lanesboro, Jean C. Guyett of Queensbury, N.Y., Margy E. Gwozdz of Cheshire and Lynn K. Whitney of Pittsfield; a brother, William G. Kristensen of Lanesboro; two sisters, Irene Dufur and Ann Snow, both of Lanesboro; 15 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Neils C. Kristensen Sr., who died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, also leaves two daughters-in-law, Claire E. Kristensen and Francisca Kristensen, and four sons-in-law, J. John Rosier, Sam Guyett, Walter "Mick" Gwozdz and G. Peter Whitney. He was predeceased by a grandson, Neils C. Kristensen III in 1989, and a sister, Margy Kristensen in 1946. The funeral will be conducted Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 11 at DERY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. William Furey. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lanesboro Volunteer Firemen's Association to benefit the Ambulance Fund in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
