Helen Dorothy Murphy

Helen Dorothy Murphy, 90, of East Housatonic St. died Wednesday afternoon at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center, where she had resided the past month. Born in Pittsfield on July 5, 1913, daughter of Dennis and Mary Kelly Murphy, she was a 1931 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1936 graduate of the former State Teachers College in Framingham. Miss Murphy was employed by GE as a payroll clerk in the main office for 42 years, retiring in 1978. She had also worked at the former Yellow Aster restaurant. She was a communicant of St. Teresa's Church and a volunteer at its Thrift Shop. She was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs and enjoyed baking and sewing. She leaves a brother, Harry Murphy of Shelbyville, Ind., and a sister, Anne Sheerin of Pittsfield. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Helen Dorothy Murphy, who died Wednesday, Sept. 24, was predeceased by her brothers, Leonard, on Aug. 26, and William, on June 12; her sister-in-law, Ethel "Bing" Murphy, on Feb. 15, and her nephew, Peter Murphy, on Sept. 11, all in 2003. She will be lovingly missed by her brother-in-law, Joseph Sheerin, and her sister-in-law, Regis Murphy, and by her many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be tomorrow, Sept. 27, at 8:45 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30 at St. Teresa's Church celebrated by the Rev. John J. Varley, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Friday, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Teresa's Church in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
