NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Arthur Pierre Lemaire Sr., 80, of 190 Eagle St. died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at home.
Born in Burlington, Vt., on Nov. 25, 1922, son of Edward and Matilda Lemiux Lemaire, he moved to North Adams as a child and was a 1941 graduate of Drury High School.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
Mr. Lemaire was employed by New England Power Co. for 43 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a communicant of Notre Dame Church and a member of the North Adams Lodge of Elks 487 and Eagles Aerie 310.
His wife, the former Helen Genevieve Hartman, whom he married June 1, 1946, died Oct. 26, 1999.
He leaves six sons, Arthur P. Lemaire Jr. and Thomas Lemaire, both of Clarksburg, Bruce Lemaire, Robert Lemaire and Jeffrey Lemaire, all of North Adams, and Charles Lemaire of Stamford, Vt.; two daughters, Ann Sanders of Urbana, Mo., and Patricia Wol of North Adams; 17 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. He also leaves his companion, Marion Harris, with whom he resided.
Predeceased by five brothers and five sisters.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Mr. Lemaire Sr. will be Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 12:15 from AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 1 at Notre Dame Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours will be today, Monday, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247.
